कैमरा एक प्रकाशीय युक्ति है जिसकी सहायता से कोई स्थिर छवि (फोटोग्राफ) या चलचित्र (मूवी या विडियो) खींचा जा सकता है। चलचित्र वस्तुतः किसी परिवर्तनशील या चलायमान वस्तु के बहुत छोटे समयान्तरालों पर खींची गयी बहुत से छवियों का एक क्रमिक समूह होता है।

कैमरा शब्द लैटिन के कैमरा ऑब्स्क्योरा से आया है जिसका अर्थ अंधेरा कक्ष होता है। ध्यान रखने योग्य है कि सबसे पहले फोटो लेने के लिये एक पूरे कमरे का प्रयोग होता था, जो अंधकारमय होता था।
